RecycleBalls: Toss & Win
I designed this booth for use at a national tennis industry trade show. Recycleballs is a Burlington, VT based non-profit with the goal of keeping as many tennis balls out of landfills as possible. I designed this carnival-inspired “toss & win” game to draw attention into the booth, spark conversations, and get people excited about the idea of the tennis ball recycling program.
With a limited budget, I made use of materials we already had on hand and low-cost 3D printed solutions to create an engaging display that could be easily folded flat for easier shipping to the trade show venue.
3D Printed Letters
For the centerpiece of the display I wanted the words “Toss & Win” illuminated in a carnival light style. I was able to achieve this with some simple 3D printed designs, and some LED string lights. I left holes at even intervals for each light to peak through, and gave each letter enough depth to hide all the extra wire in the cavity.
Designed to Fold Flat
A key requirement of this design was the ability for everything to fold flat for shipping in two 24” x 48” x 4” boxes. Using hand cut coroplast sheets, I built the ball chute to be easily reassembled with cut out tabs and velcro and to utilize RecycleBalls branded cardboard ball recycling receptacles to hold the thrown balls.

The Great Ball Wall
On a mission to spruce up the RecycleBalls warehouse space and experimenting with the surprisingly strong bond of hot glue and tennis balls in a hexagonal grid, I realized this hexagon pattern could also map out a perfect recycle symbol. I scaled the designed to a ball grid I measured to fit this wall panel to fit over the railing of an elevated portion of the warehouse. I broke the design into easier to manage tiles which I could then glue together into their final place.
