RecycleBalls: “Trash Filter”

RecycleBalls is a Burlington VT based non-profit aiming to keep as many tennis balls out of landfills as possible. Used tennis balls are shipped from individuals and tennis clubs across the country to the sorting facility for processing. Balls that are clean enough get a second life as bulk low-cost dog balls, while the rest get shredded to become anything from horse arena footing to the surface of a new tennis court.

Problem:
Many of the recycled boxes of balls sent in contain some non-tennis ball debris, some dried leaves, a candy wrapper, a crushed up can, or most often - the plastic lid from a fresh pack of tennis balls.

Solution:
Two 3D Printed parts and 11 low cost fiberglass snow stakes.

This place would process literally MILLIONS of tennis balls, here are a few that caught my eye.
